Mysteries and Secrets of Freemasonry: Part III
The Templar Connection
What will be the connection between the Order of Knights Templar and Freemasonry? Is it a valid link or otherwise not?
Before the specific Order in the Freemasons became prevalent, another prestigious group was given birth to, supposedly their predecessor. A band of warrior monks was formed noisy . 12th Century, then referred to as Poor Knights of Christ and also the Temple of Solomon. Eventually we were holding sanctioned through the Catholic Church, but were officially founded in 1118 AD, with Hughes de Payen since its first Grand Master. They marched to Jerusalem, primarily to fight inside the holy wars up against the Muslims. Essentially this number of knights became might know about commonly know as the Knights Templar, whereby a typical tradition claims were the forerunners with the Freemasons. Soon they gained extreme wealth and became the largest banking institution across Europe and also the Holy Land. Unfortunately, its great wealth lead to its fateful demise.
While the Knights Templar spent many years in Jerusalem, they linked to mystic Sufis who probably inspired the warrior monks toward a deeper spiritual path. “It is Sufism that people obtain the earliest record with the transmission of spiritual knowledge from master to initiate.” (The Enigma from the Freemasons by Tim Wallace-Murphy). Considering the Masonic school uses this same form of initiatory tradition, that is yet another clue for the development in the Knights Templar and in the end Freemasonry.
Supposedly the mysterious Rex Deus families were also behind the forming of the Knights Templar in addition to Freemasonry in later centuries, so here we percieve a hazy link between the Templars and Freemasonry. The idea that both actually converge at some point, although the Templars were suppressed and disappeared more than 200 years before Freemasonry arose, can be considered erroneous. However, the thought the Templars’ influenced people that eventually became Freemasons can appear far more possible.
There was a link between the Knights Templar and also the Craftmason guilds across Europe. In fact, these particular guilds offer an interesting history also, if it is extending its love to be believed. “Robert Graves… claimed that Freemasonry first began like a Sufi society that reached England inside the guise of an craft guild in the reign of King Athelstan (ruled 924-939), and was then introduced into Scotland. He describes the Sufic origins of the Craftmasons’ guilds and also the part played by Templar teaching and tradition inside the transformation of these guilds into Freemasonry. Graves traced Sufi origins back on the second millennium BCE and recounted that their hidden wisdom was passed down the generations by a technique of initiation, from master to pupil. He asserts that this role with the Sufi masters in building of Solomon’s Temple is often a heavily weighed that is certainly commemorated in Freemasonic ritual.” (The Enigma with the Freemasons by Tim Wallace-Murphy) Here we have seen another piece of the puzzle on the speculative origins of Freemasonry. Although the influence in the Sufi tradition upon the Templars and also Craftmason guilds that became Freemasons is incredibly plausible, the idea of a direct link seems unlikely. Therefore, its bold claim they can have its ancient origin in the building of Solomon’s Temple is especially questionable.
Likewise, many of the Craftmason guilds in Europe were secretly initiatory warders, allegedly stemming returning to these early Sufi builders. One guild particularly, the Children of Solomon, was intrinsically linked for the Knights Templar. Exactly how is not clear. Whether one sprung out of the other, or if we were holding two separate entities that formed a fraternal bond is not known. However, this special link adds for the approaching growth and development of Freemasonry. Such craft guilds were innovators of great Gothic architecture, for we were holding in charge of building the cathedrals and churches for that growing Roman Catholic Church. In fact, many of those great architectural endeavors were specifically constructed by the Children of Solomon and funded by the Knights Templar.
Also, these clever Craftmason guilds marked their esoteric signatures into these religious buildings, using symbolism of sacred geometry, an example being the Celtic Cross in a circle, the particular mark in the Children of Solomon. Such craftsmen imprinted their secret language in these great structures, being the esoteric language in the initiates, intentionally leaving their mark wherever they went, wherever they built great structures. Many of the signs and symbols are currently symbols from the Freemasons.
So, the plot thickens.
